PRIVATE TRAINING
Keyboardists may study individually with Barbara Lister-Sink and Charles Stein, certified Alexander Technique instructor.
The training program for the Lister-Sink Method is a series of intensive, hands-on sessions tailored to the individual profile and needs of each keyboardist. The initial training in fundamental body awareness, muscle control, alignment, kinetic reeducation and sound production requires approximately 8-12 hours of training and is best accomplished within a condensed period of 4 to 5 days. During the fundamental training period with Barbara Lister-Sink, it is recommended that 2-4 one-hour sessions in whole body reeducation be taken with a certified Alexander Technique instructor. Subsequent stages of training are encouraged and may be accomplished through either a series of private lessons scheduled throughout the year, or through video or on-line computer lessons. The training or retraining program is pyramidal. The first level—the understanding of basic sound production—is the most psychologically and mentally rigorous. It requires a return to the most fundamental movements and sensations at the keyboard to allow old neuromuscular programs and faulty, inefficient patterns of body use to be replaced by new ones. Once these sensations and movements are mastered and become automatic, progress through the subsequent stages of kinetic complexity and repertory is more rapid. NOTE: After the initial evaluation, Barbara Lister-Sink may recommend supplemental assistance by certified specialists in such areas as orthopaedics, neurology, chiropractic, somatic education, neuromuscular massage or physical therapy. Cost of these services is not included in the training program. If the pianist has been treated by a specialist prior to training, he or she is requested to indicate the nature of the injury and history of its treatment. Permission will also be requested to contact the specialist if necessary. WHERE? HOW MUCH? |
